I do not know how Dionisia (my GG Grandmother) pronounced either
"Dionisia" or "Futcher", but Dionisia was a family name. There is a story
unsubstantiated) that Dionisia was the first woman Head Teacher in a state
school in England. There is another story (also unsubstantiated) that she
was once involved with one of Wills family, of the famous WD & HO Wills
tobacco family. There are two theories why the engagement was called off:
first, that her mother Mary disapproved, second, that Dionisia "ran off"
to marry my GG Grandfather James Lane. I, of course, like to think the
latter.
